HEIONTEC on WDR: TV report on the technology
HEIONTEC's technology for generating electricity from ambient heat was recently featured on television: In its “Lokalzeit” program, Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) reported on the development and current state of the research.
For the report, the reporter accompanied the researchers in the lab and documented, among other things, the construction of button-cell prototypes. The report thus offers a rare glimpse into the practical development work behind the technology.
It also explains how low-temperature heat—such as that generated by industrial processes or from the environment—can be converted directly into electrical energy. One potential application lies in the self-sufficient power supply for sensors and other low-energy devices, which could thereby be operated continuously and without batteries in the future.
The television report is a welcome public acknowledgment of the development work to date and shows that the topic of waste heat utilization is increasingly coming into focus for research, industry, and the public.
